Swiss Public Transport System and EasyRide
Swiss public transportation system has the reputation on its accuracy and efficiency.
That's because various transportation means are integrated into one Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) system. Switzerland's public transportation system is acknowledged as one of the best systems in the world.
To travelers, in particular, Swiss public transportation is more than a simple transportation mean and is considered as a highlight of the tour.
It has actively used digital technologies including ticket purchase and operational information via smartphone apps these days.
With this, travelers have been able to trip to Switzerland more conveniently. EasyRide, one of the functions in a smartphone app, is particularly noteworthy.
Among the technologies SBB introduced, Very Excellent Cutting-Edge Service Taking Full Advantage of Capabilities of Smartphone
It works like magic, enabling ticketing, route calculation etc. with a single swipe, without complicated ticketing procedures.
Route Calculation / Ticketing / Daily Pass / about KRW 9,000 / Single Pass / about KRW 4,000 / Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne / Gare de Lausanne / Swiss Federal Railways
Public Transport Map of Lausanne / Lausanne is divided into Zone 11, marked dark in a circle on the map and Zone 12 shown faint.
Switzerland's public transportation system has daily pass and single pass.
Daily pass is a free pass for a day in specific district. For example, if you buy the daily pass for Zone 11 and 12, you can use all public transportation means (railway, underground, bus) in the two zones freely for a day. The price of the pass is about KRW 9,000.
On the contrary, if you buy a single pass from Gare de Lausanne to Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, you have a ticket to travel between Zone 11 and 12 for an hour. The price of the ticket is about KRW 4,000.
That is, if you're sure you'll only be traveling between two zones once, it would be wise to buy two single passes.
However, when unexpected travel plans come up and you have to buy another single pass for it, you would have not spent extra cost if you knew it already.
This calculation becomes a bit more complicated if you travel to another zone in Switzerland.
If you don't know the concept of the zones in the destination well, it is very tired of you deliberating which combination would be the most economic.
EasyRide makes that type of trouble solved at once.
Activate your ticket with a single swipe before boarding the train at your departure point, and deactivate it with a swipe in the opposite direction when you arrive at your destination and that’s all.
That’s because the app makes an inverse calculation on the public transportation automatically based on location and time information.
EasyRide User Screen / 'Start' button below is the button to activate the function and one swipe (sliding to the side) makes the function activated too.
Automatic Calculation with the Cheapest Combination among All Combinations in the Day
In other words, it is counted as 3-time use of a daily pass automatically, not as 3 single passes which becomes the definite merit.
The merit shines more when you travel to unfamiliar places.
Because once you check the routes with the map service and activate EasyRide, you can use the public transportation at ease.
You would not be afraid of traveling if you can use cheap public transportation easily just with two hand gesture, wouldn’t you?
Interestingly, Swiss are polarized about the service despite that excellency. The main reason is that SBB, even though it is a state-owned company, can collect every single person's location information anyway.
Nevertheless, it is rapidly spreading among young ages in Switzerland thanks to its intuitive usage and convenience, and the spread is being extended to the elderly as well.
