This research aimed to develop an optimal traffic operation strategy for the coexistence of automated vehicles and human-driven vehicles in urban area. Through comprehensive and precise literature reviews on traffic operations in domestic and international cases, we identified potential problems in the mixed traffic conditions. The identified issues were then used to perform a SWOT analysis, which helps us to look for the directions on research and development for key technologies associated with a connected and automated driving-based mobility center in future. Based on these findings, the concept of the connected and automated driving-based mobility center in future was defined. In addition, a novel center platform architecture that enables micro-service, hybrid infrastructure, and AI-based big data analysis was also established. Furthermore, nine specific types of optimal traffic operation service scenarios were provided based on the proposed center platform architecture. The results of this study could be used as a foundation for developing digital road infrastructures for connected and automated driving-based mobility services. It would also be expected that the proposed optimal traffic operation service scenarios are helpful for domestic and international mobility service providers and related industries using the connected and automated driving-based fleets as well as policymakers at national and local levels.
